For
the first time powerchair users can now play in an exciting, competitive
sport. This is powerchair football with rules and standards being adopted
internationally. Clubs are now being formed all over the country, guided
by the Wheelchair Football Association and the first ever UK league was
launched in 2006. Celtic Storm reached the quarter finals and this season, with the help of a grant from Awards for All, we entered two teams into a newly formatted league. Our first team finished a creditable third behind Aspire and Northern Thunder in the Premiership League. The second team finished in fourth place in the Championship League. A very successful season!!
We have been desparately raising funds to purchase dedicated powerchair football chairs - the Variety Club gave us a grant to purchase two chairs and Sports Relief, through the Community Fund have provided a third. These chairs will be put to good use during the summer to give all players the opportunity to try out these fast and responsive chairs before next season.
The arrival of these chairs also opens up the club to new players - those with a physical disability who do not normally use a powerchair. We are looking to expand the club and we welcome anyone who wishes to try out the game or just come
along and watch. See our fixtures' page for details of up and coming events or the contacts page to get in touch.
Sponsors are still sought to help us keep the club alive and purchase more dedicated football powerchairs please use
the contacts page to get in touch with us.
